Lima

Monday, March 18th
M/S Marina
Americas Connection
Day 1 - Embarkation
Lima, Peru
Callao, Peru
Departing:  5:00 PM
Cloudy - 81 Degrees

On our way to the port of Callou to Connect the Americas with Oceania, we had time to hit a few of Lima's highlights.

Lima's favorite park, especially for lovers, is just a quick stop away in Miraflores.  It overlooks the Pacific Ocean on the water side of the Malecon Cisneros.  Parque del Amor was dedicated in 1993, reminiscent of Gaudi's Parc Guell in Barcelona.  It is inspired by one of the greatest monuments to love ever created, the iconic sculpture by Peruvian artist Victor Delfin, El Beso (The Kiss).

If Parque del Amor is the romantic heart of the city, Plaza Mayor has been the historical heart of the city since 1535.

Plaza Mayor is anchored on three sides by the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Government Palace, and the Municipal Palace.

Finally, on the way to the ship, a trip to the beach for surf school

We are sailing in a concierge veranda suite aboard Oceania Marina, the first in the Oceania class of ships, and the first purpose-built by and for the cruise line. She is larger and more luxurious than her sister ships with more amenities and dining options.

Sailaway took us out of the industrial port of Callao and out to sea with an assist from the tug, the bridge, and the birds.

Next Stop:  The Polo Grill
After That:  Salaverry, Peru
