Birthday at Sea

Monday, November 30th
Happy Birthday Tres!!!
Route of the Ancient Traders
Day 20
M/S Nautica
At Sea
Sunny - 80 Degrees

The weather was perfect cruising the Arabian Sea today. Not a cloud in the sky, plenty of sun, and a nice breeze to keep us cool.

Tres started the day with cards and presents. Pat Schaefer sent a birthday card along with us when we left for the trip. I had a card as well, and David Plouffe's new book "The Audacity to Win" about the 2008 presidential campaign and Obama's historic victory.

The spa on Nautica is run by Canyon Ranch. It is at the bow on Deck 10. I couldn't see Tres enjoying a facial or a manicure, but I knew he would love the Thalassotherapy Pool.

At the very tip of the bow, there is a private deck off the spa, with a special pool where a select few can soak in luxury. Filled with saltwater and heated to just above body temperature, this is the ultimate relaxation.

One end is fitted with a chaise lounge of tubular steel submerged in the water. These tubes are perforated with a thousand tiny jets that massage every inch of your body with soothing bubbles. It is heavenly.

After breakfast, I paid our dues at the spa and we spent the morning in blissful solitude...cold shower, hot soak, cold shower, rest in the sun, repeat. Dolphins danced off the bow as we made way at 18 knots. I am so glad Tres had a birthday!!!

In the afternoon, I had my hair done, while Tres attended the latest guest lecture by Dr. Doug Sturkey, "Sea Stories - O'Reilly and the Catulpa Rescue - Seven Irish Convicts Escaped to America from Imprisonment in Western Australia, Six Under a Daring Raid Mounted from Massachusetts."

Tres went back out to the spa deck and Thalassotherapy Pool for another round at sunset, then we went to the Polo Grill for dinner. Tres started with a tasting of single malt Scotch from The Macallan and Highland Park, followed by a USDA Prime ribeye and birthday cake.

As birthday wishes trickled in by phone and email from friends far and wide, we put another day at sea, and another great birthday, to bed. ...and many more!!!

Next Stop: Muscat, Oman

  1. I'm glad it was such a beautiful birthday! The thalassotherapy (I heartily approve of the use of greek) tub sounds and looks heavenly. Couldn't have planned that better . . .
