Key West, Florida
ms Veendam
Cuban Explorer
Day 1
Mostly Sunny - 80 Degrees
Ahoy Matey!!! Our last landing in the Conch Republic was in 1996. Not much has changed. 130 miles Southwest of Miami, at the foot of the island chain known as the Florida Keys, Key West is the Southernmost point in the contiguous United States.
One of the first sights to greet you in the old port is the former Coast Guard station, now the Clinton Square Market.
Just as we did 22 years ago, we stopped at Sloppy Joe's for lunch. It is Key West's most famous restaurant, originator of the namesake sandwich, and a favorite former haunt of Ernest Hemingway.
Alas, it's not the pirate life for us. That's it for today.
